¿Por qué existen tan pocas mujeres en la ciencia?

Supongo que esta misma pregunta os la habréis formulado alguna vez.

El debate sobre la escasez de mujeres en la ciencia fue provocado a partir de un estudio de investigación realizado en 1997 en Suecia, marcando un punto decisivo en Europa. Así, organizaciones de investigación, universidades y gobiernos no pudieron ignorar una prueba documentada de discriminación, cuando este hecho antes se había considerado anecdótico.
Los estudios indican que aquellas mujeres que permanecen en la ciencia afrontan la discriminación, con empleos más precarios y con subvenciones inferiores a sus colegas masculinos.
Lo cierto es que la orientación masculina de la ciencia no es la única causa que explica la baja representación de la mujer en este ámbito. La aceptación del estereotipo del macho científico o ingeniero es probablemente muy importante. Las mujeres, por oposición, tienen pocos modelos femeninos con los que identificarse y pocos líderes que las animen y empujen.
Es sabido que las mujeres cargan con el cuidado de los hijos. Dejan el laboratorio y el retorno se convierte en una difícil tarea. El tiempo que están alejadas del lugar de trabajo conduce al desconocimiento en nuevas tecnologías y en los avances recientes. El reciclaje es un asunto arduo, en el que no todas las empresas están dispuestas a intervenir. Muchos hablan de la conciliación familiar y laboral. Lo que falta por saber es si esta es una acción que se está implementando y que se convierte en un hecho cada vez más común o que al empresario no le compensa invertir en temas de igualdad.
¿Dónde se encuentra la solución? Las acciones pueden tomarse en diferentes niveles y, según los expertos, la forma más efectiva cocnsiste en la educación. La escuela, la universidad o el puesto de trabajo son las áreas en las que actuar, en primer lugar.

    Este artículo me ha resultado interesante, ya que recoge que fue a raíz del estudio de investigación realizado en Suecia en 1997, donde se puso de manifiesto el reducido número de mujeres existentes en el ámbito científico, suceso que ocasionó que no se pudiera pasar por alto más el hecho de que el número de mujeres en el campo científico fuese más bien reducido, ya que hasta este momento se había ignorado el tema para no tener que tomar cartas en este asunto.

    Las mujeres científicas quedaban relegadas a un segundo plano, ya que ellas desarrollaban su labor en un ámbito trasicionalmente destinado a los hombres en los que el accesio de la mujer estaba muy limitado.

    La mujer tiene más problemas que el hombre en este campo a lo que hay que añadir, el hecho de que la mujer se encarga además de su profesión de otras labores como son el cuidado de los hijos, los ancianos, la casa, etc lo que en algunas ocasiones las obliga a dejar de lado momentaniamente su trabajo científico y cuando quieren regresar lo tienen más complicado ya que desconocen los avances científicos ocurridos en su ausencia.

    Para estas mujeres que han tenido que dejar de lado sus trabajos, resulta una tarea ardua el hecho de reciclarse ya que no todas las empresas lo facilitan, mucho se ha hablado de la conciliación de la vida laboral y familiar pero, todo son sólo palabras a la hora de la verdad la mujer no cuenta con apoyos si no que, más bien al contrario se la dificulta más el hecho de que desarrolle su trabajo como científica pese a conatr en algunas ocasiones con mejores capacidades que sus compañeros varones pero ellos, por el simple hecho de ser hombres lo tienen más fácil.

    En la actualidad, la mujer tienen que seguir luchando para que se la considere ni más ni menos que el hombre, sino una persona con una serie de capacidades a explotar.

    Esta pregunta debiera hacernos a todos reflexionar ya que a pesar de haber sido la ciencia tradicionalmente un mundo dominado por hombres, éste no es el único escollo que ha de salvarse.
    Bien es sabido por todos que este es un mundo en constante cambio y que es necesario reciclarse de forma contínua, y esto exige gran dedicación, constancia y tenacidad, y que estas características, a pesar de ser comunes a hombres y mujeres, no dotan a ambos de la misma facilidad para triunfar en este ámbito de la vida.Por tanto en el fondo, tal y como afirman muchos estudiosos, la clave radica en la educación, en la de todos y cada uno de nosotros, porque para que una mujer pueda dedicarse en cuerpo y alma a la ciencia, debe estar apoyada y respaldada por una sociedad que aún hoy en día, considera que ellas deben ocuparse primeramente de otro tipo de obligaciones, por tanto aquellas que logran triunfar siempre representan un porcentaje menor al de los hombres que desde la cuna han tenido el camino más despejado.
    Por este motivo animo a todas las luchadoras y emprendedoras a seguir en su batalla diaria para que entre todas consigamos un mundo mejor, más justo y en el que cada cuál pueda ser lo que quiera, sin trabas que se lo impidan y sin prejuicios ni pesares.

    Es cierto que todos pecamos al escuchar la palabra “científico”, y automáticamente imaginar a un hombre con gafas y bata blanca, en lugar de a una mujer. Ningún estereotipo es bueno, pero este realmente daña la posición de las mujeres en laboratorios, universidades, departamentos de I+D.

    Las iniciativas como este blog han ayudado a paliar ligeramente este efecto, pero aún nos queda mucho por hacer. El hecho de que la mujer tenga que elegir entre tener hijos o una carrera profesional me parece del todo inadmisible. ¿Es que los hombres no tienen que ocuparse de sus hijos? ¿Es que no pueden recogerles en el cole, hacer con ellos los deberes, o poner la lavadora tan bien como lo haría una mujer?

    Y no estoy del todo de acuerdo en que el problema radique en la educación. Ya no. Antes no teníamos acceso a las Universidades, ni a los estudios superiores. Incluso necesitábamos permiso de nuestro padre o marido para trabajar, pero ya no. Estamos tan bien formadas como ellos. La educación no es un problema.

    También sería injusto decir que el tema no ha avanzado desde hace años. Creo que la mejora de la situación de la mujer es un hecho, aunque se produzca muy despacio. Quizá sea sólo cuestión de tiempo…
