"Científicas y educadoras: las primeras mujeres en el proceso de construcción de la Didáctica de las Ciencias en España" es el título que lleva una reciente publicación de María de los Ángeles Delgado Martínez, licenciada en Física y Química por la universidad de Murcia en 1957 y doctora en Pedagogía. María de los Ángeles ha dedicado los últimos años a una labor investigadora admirable en la historia de la educación vinculada a la ciencia. Y este libro es el fruto de su estudio.
La primera parte de la obra, "Ciencia, género y educación en los orígenes de la España contemporánea", pone su interés en resaltar el papel de las mujeres en el mundo de la ciencia y su transmisión. En él se desarrolla un análisis cruzado entre la historia de las disciplinas científicas y la educación de las mujeres en sus dos vertientes: la educación recibida y la educación transmitida.
A lo largo del estudio se hace un análisis de cómo las mujeres, una vez que consiguieron entrar en el mundo universitario, hacerse un hueco en él y a posteriori, hacer valer sus títulos e investigaciones, contribuyeron a la enseñanza y a la didáctica de las Ciencias Experimentales, bien desde las escuelas primaria y secundaria, bien desde las escuelas de maestras que recibían el nombre de "escuelas normales".
En este libro podemos encontrar historias interesantes sobre la aceptación de la educación en ciencias para las mujeres en los siglos XVIII y XIX. En primer lugar, en las escuelas normales se acepta la incursión en el currículum de estudios femeninos de "ciencias experimentales" por la aplicabilidad que estas materias pudieran tener a la vida de familia.
Ya en los años 20 del siglo XX son más numerosos los estudios en ciencias experimentales llevados a cabo por mujeres y la presencia femenina aumenta en los diferentes cursos además de que las mujeres también comienzan a asistir a las facultades de ciencias para realizar estudios superiores.
Un tema que se convierte en protagonista en aquel momento es el de la metodología para la enseñanza de las ciencias tanto en las escuelas normales como en las de primaria, secundaria y superior. Es el momento en el que la carencia de estudios generalizados en ciencias de los años anteriores se pone de relieve en tanto que las estudiantes que llegan a las escuelas normales poseen sólo en el mejor de los casos nociones muy básicas de ciencia.
Por ello que se impulsó el desarrollo de trabajos que tienen como objetivo conocer de qué manera se pueden integrar los estudios de ciencias en los currículos académicos elementales de tal manera que estos conocimientos pudieran ser realmente asimilados por los alumnos y alumnas. Aparece una escuela pedagógica como reconoce la autora, o al menos, un interés generalizado en las mujeres por el "cómo enseñar bien" dados los retrasos existentes no sólo en la acumulación de conocimientos si no en la capacidad de discurrir y de solucionar problemas.
Dado este interés de las profesoras en enseñar bien su materia y en formar correctamente a sus alumnas, muchas de ellas solicitaron permisos para viajar al extranjero, a Inglaterra, a Francia, a Bélgica, para conocer de primera mano de qué manera se enseñaba a las estudiantes las materias en ciencias experimentales.
Y de aquel interés por la pedagogía en las ciencias experimentales, estas primeras mujeres que se relacionaron en España con la enseñanza de estas materias publicaron estudios que en muchos de los casos se convertirían posteriormente en los propios libros de texto con los que en las escuelas se enseñaba las ciencias.
Así Matilde Ridocci en 1901 presenta el texto "Nociones de Física, Química e Historia Natural para las Escuelas Normales" en el que no sólo trata los temas más destacados de las diferentes materias sino que recoge un listado de posibles experimentos a realizar, tales como la inversión de un sólido en un líquido, que pudiera hacer comprender al alumno las leyes físicas más básica y su reconocimiento y aplicabilidad en el mundo real.
Es por tanto esta publicación de María de los Ángeles Delgado Martínez, un libro de interés general. Con él, no sólo nos podemos hacer una idea de la historia de las ciencias experimentales en nuestro país sino también, acercarnos a las protagonistas que hicieron posible su difusión y conocer cómo lo hicieron: los obstáculos que debieron superar, los recursos con los que contaban y la motivación que las llevó a ello. Una obra didáctica en todos los términos pero también entretenida -sin perder el rigor académico- y ¡¡¡llena de curiosidades!!!

¡Gracias por la recomendación! Parece que el libro es una contribución interesante para poner en perspectiva histórica un aspecto fundamental de la relación entre género y ciencia: el de las instituciones. Navegando la Web, he podido encontrar muchas iniciativas actuales que apuestan por transformar las instituciones de la producción científica mediante la labor pedagógica. Una de ellas es la Fundación WISH de la École Polytechnique Fédéral de Lausanne. Desde ahí se realizan numerosas actividades dirigidas a fomentar la activivdad de las mujeres en la ciencia, pero se subraya que si el objetivo es tener un impacto en el largo plazo, es imprescindible trabajar con niñas. En este sentido, desde la fundación se organizan cursos de matemáticas on-line, campamentos científicos de verano, etcétera, con el objetivo de transformar las bases institucionales de la producción científica. Recomiendo que visiten su página Web; hay varios recursos interesantes, por ejemplo el apartado de “relevant articles” en donde se dispone de artículos académicos y prensa seleccionados.
